Welcome to the Library at South Georgia College!

The library is a fundamental resource for higher learning. I encourage you to take advantage of this resource for various research needs, for a place to study and complete class work without distractions, and for enjoying recreational information in your personal downtime.

Both print and electronic resources are readily accessible within the library as well as through the web site. The staff and I invite you to learn more about library resources and services by perusing the Library Brochure and requesting an orientation.

The staff and I are here to assist in meeting your informational needs! Please let us know how we may help you!

Important Information

Student should be sure to obtain an SGC I.D. card after registering and cashiering for classes. Student I.D. cards are issued upstairs in the Engram College Union. The ID card serves as a Library Card. It gives students access to materials in the library, and is the validation for printing from computer workstations. Loaning a card to someone else or using any one else's ID card is a violation of the Code of Conduct. Unauthorized use of cards also violates state financial transaction laws.

This SGC ID card is your Library Card. It is required to:

  1. check out materials from the Smith Library collections,

  2. check out books requested through GIL Express for delivery to the Smith Library from other University System Libraries, and

  3. check out materials at other University System Libraries that you may visit (for example: at Valdosta State University Library).

The back of the SGC ID Card displays a barcode, which is the identification number for your personal “MY ACCOUNT” within the GIL Online Catalog (GIL@SGC).  From your personal "My Account" screen, you can:

n       Obtain access to the quarterly GALILEO password (in order to search and retrieve information in the GALILEO databases remotely from anywhere off campus);

n       Renew library materials you have checked out (at your home SGC library or at other University System Libraries); and

n       Place GIL Express requests for materials from other University System Libraries which are indicated as being available in the USG Universal Catalog.

In addition to being your college photo identification and library card, the SGC ID Card provides a $10.00 credit from the Student Technology Fee for the current semester for:

n       Printing from computer workstations located in the library

n       Making photocopies from the print release station located near the Circulation Desk.
